Seven Things to Have in Your Car This Winter

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. During winter months, the weather is unpredictable and you’ll want to make sure you and your loved ones are able to get through an emergency situation. Here are some important items you should have in your car during the colder months.

1.     Emergency Kit. Many people already have an emergency kit in their vehicles, but there are a few items that should be added during the winter months. Emergency flares and reflectors should be added so rescuers can find you during bad weather when visibility may be low.

2.     Blankets. Having blankets or a coat is very important, especially in the cold. If you are stuck in a snowstorm or if your car won’t start, you will need something to keep you warm until help arrives and you can get back on the road.

3.     Batteries. An accident can happen any time of the day. You will definitely want to keep a flashlight and extra batteries handy just in case something happens during the night. Your car might be out and you won’t have any light sources to depend on.

4.     Jumper Cables. How many times have jumper cables saved you from being stranded? They will be useful during those times when your battery needs some extra power, or it might even come in handy for someone else who is having problems with their vehicle. If you have an older car, this is a great item to have with you at all times.

5.     Shovel. There are times when you might get stuck in the snow. A shovel will be very helpful when you need to dig yourself out of a sticky situation. You will be able to find compact folding shovels that will work perfect when you need to create a clear path for yourself.

6.     Ice Scraper. This is probably one of the items you will use most in the winter, especially if your vehicle is not parked in a garage. Nothing is worse than not having something to scrape snow/ice off your car when needed.

7.     Snacks/Drinks. It’s rare for someone to be stranded for more than a day during a winter storm, but it’s still safe to keep a few energy bars and bottled energy drinks on hand just in case.

These items will help you if you ever get stranded in the cold weather. As we mentioned before, it’s better to be prepared for something than to not have anything at all to help out your situation.
