Safety Tips If You Are Caught in Bad Weather

Winter is a beautiful season, but the roads can be dangerous and challenging. We all want to make sure we are safe on the roads and are prepared for inclement weather. Here are some safety tips you’ll need if you are caught in bad weather.

Be Prepared
Driving in snow or rain can be scary sometimes. You have to worry about sliding and hydroplaning and you have to worry about someone drifting into you. With that being said, make sure you are prepared for whatever you may encounter. You might get stranded somewhere so you need to make sure you have winter essentials in your car. This can include extra clothing, a flashlight, blanket, food, water, jumper cables, and a car safety kit.

Get Your Vehicle Checked
It doesn’t hurt to get your vehicle checked every so often to make sure everything is running properly. Have a mechanic make sure your tires are good to go, all your fluids are filled, and that you are up-to-date with your service needs.

Drive Safely
Driving in winter can be totally different than driving in the summer. You must change your driving habits to fit the road conditions and weather. In the winter, during snowy and rainy days, you should slow down and give yourself extra space between vehicles. Allow yourself extra room just in case you need move out of harm’s way. Many accidents occur because people are driving too fast and lose control of their car when something happens.

Watch for Black Ice
Black ice is a dangerous road condition that can be very scary if you aren’t prepared for it. Black ice is a thin layer of ice that forms when the temperature is close to freezing. This makes the road look a little wet and it’s hard to spot, so you must be careful. Black ice is common in Utah so all drivers need to be aware of this and drive cautiously.

Road Conditions
Use your best judgment to decide if you should get off the road. Most of us want to make it through the storm, but sometimes we need to make the right decision and pull over. Make sure you are listening to weather reports and are aware of your surroundings. You also want to make sure your headlights are working properly so others can see you as well.

Making sure you and your loved ones are safe while driving is something that is very important to us at Larry H. Miller Lexus Lindon. If you have a vehicle that needs to be serviced or checked, you can always count on us to get the job done. Be safe this holiday and schedule a service visit with one of our technicians today.

Be Prepared to Take Winter on Full-Force in Four Steps

Winter is in the air and we’re all waiting for that first big snow storm to blow in and stick in the valley. Regardless of whether we’re ready for it, winter is headed our way, so why not get prepared before it takes its toll? Your Lexus needs a little love and care to prepare for the months ahead. To get the best traction and stay safe on the road, prepare with these four tips.

Ensure that your tires are ready to hit the road. We all know that traction is of the utmost importance during the colder months, so it’s vital to ensure that your tires are in tip-top shape. Snow tires are also a great way to help avoid any slips. Helping you stop at twice the distance of all-season tires when traveling at 60 mph, having snow tires this season is a no-brainer when preparing for the icy roads to come.

Test your battery. Did you know that extreme heat and cold can severely shorten the life of your car battery? By having it tested, you can avoid your car not starting and having to sit out in the cold while you wait for a jump. We’re happy to help with your car’s needs here at Larry H. Miller Lexus of Lindon to get you all squared away for the winter months.

Pack a winter supply box. It’s a good idea to always have emergency supplies in your car with a first aid kit and a jack in case of a flat tire. But as temperatures drop, it’s time to add more to it. To be prepared for whatever the season throws at you, pack blankets, hats, a small shovel, and snacks in your winter supply box. Bring it on, winter. We’ll be prepared for whatever you throw our way.

Refill all fluids. Start by checking your fluid levels. If the coolant, oil, or wiper fluids are low, it’s time to replenish. For the coolant and wiper fluid, it is extremely important to ensure that they are freeze-resistant to keep things flowing through the freezing temperatures. For your oil change, we’ll take care of it at Lexus of Lindon.

Once you check off all the things your car needs to make it through the cold, it’s more likely to run at peak performance during the winter months. No matter your winter preparation needs, we can help you get ready. Schedule your appointment with us today and take on the cold like a champ. You’ll be happy you got a head start when Mother Nature takes a turn for the worse.

Thanksgiving Desserts to Enjoy on Your Feast Day

For many people, the best part about Thanksgiving dinner is the dessert table. You can’t go wrong with too many desserts either. The only way you can spoil dessert is if you fill up on turkey and don’t save any room for the best part of the meal. End (or start, we won’t judge) your Thanksgiving feast with one of these delicious desserts.

Pies
From classic pumpkin pie to your grandma’s secret fruit-filled meringue pie, this classic dessert is a must-have on the dessert table. If you’ve ever attempted to make a pie, you know how difficult it can be and with so many ways for it go wrong you might not even want to make one from scratch. No worries, though. You can quickly grab a fresh one from your local grocery store or bakery. We promise not to tell on you.

Cheesecake
The good thing about cheesecake is that you have the option of adding different toppings and flavors to fit the holiday. For Thanksgiving, we recommend trying fall-inspired options such as honey pecan, spiced pumpkin swirl, cranberry, or even some cinnamon apple. The choice is yours.

Cake pops
Cake pops will be a popular hit at your next Thanksgiving dinner. If you have time, we suggest making these cute and fun Thanksgiving treats. Not everyone loves pie, so for all those people that are on that list, spice up their selection with cake pops. Find fun ideas on Pinterest or search the web to give these tasty treats some extra flare.

Cookies
Baking cookies is an easy way to keep your guests satisfied and nibbling well into the night. If you or your guests need a snack before dinner, we totally suggest something small like cookies to tide you over before the feast. You can search the web for hundreds of different cookie recipes to make. Better yet, you can have a blast decorating them.

We hope you enjoyed these sweet suggestions. Have a favorite dessert you’d like to add? Comment below and share what is on your dessert list for Thanksgiving.
